Yonkers Building Collapse Rebirth

The building collapse at 9 North Broadway in South Yonkers signaled both an end and a beginning. Nine is no more. Still, the razing of this nineteenth century building highlights the development of three others a few feet away.

The Wheeler Block building built in 1896 will be converted to lofts and studio apartments Two others will also be renovated in the same vicinity. The properties to the immediate east of 9 N. Broadway may not enjoy the same conversion. Sources say that those store merchants may not be permitted to resume business.

The good news is that the newly opened Mexican ice cream shop will remain as well as Getty Liquors.
