Why Small Businesses Matter
Shop small, do big things for your community
Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story.
Meet Taylor McLaughlin Founder & Designer at Gracia Taylor Design.
Why did you start your business?
I started Gracia Taylor Design due to a lifelong passion for creating beautiful, functional spaces. Growing up in a family of designers, decorators, and architects, I was always surrounded by creativity and artistic expression. Interior design became my way of blending that creativity with practical, personalized solutions for clients. After years of refining my craft, I wanted to build a business that helps others bring their vision to life, transforming houses into homes that truly reflect their style and needs.
What is your best-selling product/service?
Our most popular service is full-service interior design, which offers clients an end-to-end solution, from initial concept development to final installation. This comprehensive approach allows us to fully customize each space, ensuring it not only looks beautiful but also meets the functional demands of our clients’ daily lives. We also offer room refreshes and styling services, but clients appreciate the ease and impact of a complete redesign the most.
How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?
We partner with several local businesses to ensure the highest quality materials and craftsmanship for our projects. Some of the local businesses we regularly collaborate with include:
- Rings End in Wilton for paint, lumber, and building materials
- Redicut Carpet in Westport for custom carpets and flooring
- Kostas Upholstery in Norwalk for high-quality upholstery services
- Oomph Home in New Canaan for unique furniture and accessories
Have you "reimagined" your small business?
Yes, over the years I’ve evolved Gracia Taylor Design to better serve our clients. While we started primarily with residential projects, we've expanded to offer virtual design consultations and nationwide service. This shift allows us to work with clients across the country, providing them with the same personalized experience they would get locally. Additionally, we’ve focused on integrating sustainable practices and materials into our projects, which has been a key factor in reimagining our approach to design.
