Friday Flix: “Grown Ups 2”

I should be talking about “Pacific Rim,” a film I had doubts about but it is getting decent reviews. I am here because I have an issue with another movie, a sequel (not that there had to even be a first film), “Grown Ups 2.”

The reason why I hate “Grown Ups,” besides the fact that the first one completely sucked, is the comedic talent wasted in the movie.

I’m not normally a fan of Adam Sandler, who wouldn’t know a good script in the present day if it was tattooed to the back of his eyelids, but I did like him in “Punch Drunk Love,”  “The Wedding Singer,” and “Reign Over Me.” I didn’t even mind watching “Funny People.” For the most part though, I can’t stand to watch anything he stars in. It’s unfunny and so over the top goofy that it verges on idiotic.

The other stars of this movie where a bunch of friends and their families all vacation together are Chris Rock who I really like…when he’s doing standup, Kevin James who is really good in reruns of “The King of Queens,” and David Spade who has never been great at anything filmed with a camera ever.

This complete failure of a comedy even had a 0 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. That means no rating. Nonexistent. And that saddens me. “Grown Ups” could have been something without the poop jokes, family fun, and the lack of letting these guys get on screen and do their thing. When they all curse, write some of their own lines, and get to improv during filming, they excel. The results in part one and two, not excellent.

Verdict: You’re joking, right?
