Shakespeare on the Sound Presents Romeo and Juliet at Rowayton's Pinkney Park from July 18-29

By Andrew Dominick, editor of Norwalk’s Hamlet Hub

William Shakespeare's classic tragedy comes to Pinkney Park in Rowayton from July 18-July 29. Shakespeare on the Sound's annual series, this time focusing on star-crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet, will tell the tale in what they claim is a "fresh take" on the famous play.

Their interpretation will focus on eight friends and their tradition of reading the play on a summer night. The reading of the play amongst this group of friends will wash over them as they recite poetry, act out scenes, and much more.

All performances are free and open to the public. A suggested donation of $20 for adults and $10 for children is appreciated. Feel free to bring a blanket or chair for comfort and even though spots are first come, first serve, you can reserve an area for $50 by calling (203) 299-1300. You can also bring food but refreshments are available for purchase at Brendan's 101 (www.brendans101.com). Showtimes begin each night at 7:30 p.m. every day of the week EXCEPT MONDAYS. By Adrienne Burke, editor of Easton’s Hamlet Hub

New Yorkers have their summer Shakespeare in the Park. Bridgeport has Shakespeare at the Zoo. Both are free, delightfully en plein air, and accommodating to picnickers. But only one features peacocks.

Starting Friday evening, Connecticut Free Shakespeare presents nine chances for you to join the magical birds as it presents director Ellen Lieberman's adaptation of Romeo and Juliet at the Beardsley Zoo's Peacock Pavilion.

The show will be staged this weekend—Friday, July 13, Saturday July 14, and Sunday, July 15—and next week—Wednesday, July 18 thru Sunday, July 22. The Zoo opens for picnics at 6:30 pm and performances begin at 8:00 pm. Shows will be cancelled for inclement weather.

For more information, call 203-393-3213 or visit www.ctfreeshakespeare.org. The Beardsley Zoo is located at 1875 Noble Avenue, Bridgeport.
