Four questions with Carmela and Mitch Kaufman, founders of Room for Paws Pet Resort.
Why did you start your business?
With three dogs and the dilemma of not finding a safe and suitable facility to care for them in the tri-state area, we found ourselves avoiding vacations altogether. Room for Paws Pet Resort is the fruition of this passion project, ten years in the making! We wanted to provide a true family-owned pristine, safe, customized, and enriching experience for our furry guests with the optimum balance of canine socialization and human engagement, where all pups would be treated like our own family.
What is your best-selling product/service?
We are very excited to have launched our Puppy Training & Socialization Preschool for puppies starting at 3 months old, which is the critical socialization period in their development. Our trainer-led program has been extremely well received and we are thrilled to provide this exclusive and much needed program to our community.
Our daycare and all-suite boarding services continue to be in great demand as we are the only local facility to provide carefully curated, small group playtime with our all- inclusive pricing.
We also have expanded our services to include private, safe, leashed nature hikes for our guests which is also very popular.
Our professional grooming spa is the final touch that can be added to any of our boutique services. Our guests return home clean, fresh and professionally styled when choosing a spa service before they return home.
We love shopping local! We are always looking for new businesses to support.
We use Amore, Bronx House Pizza, Springdale Diner, and The Village Table for team lunches. Choice Pet or Pet-Supplied for our dog food, Interiors Haberdashery at 72 Camp Ave for our upholstery needs, Upper Deck Fitness to maintain our team's health, and the Stamford Mall for shopping, Santa Paws at Christmas, and for team-building events.

We are focused on reimagining our industry by executing next-generation dog care and boutique services in our state-of-the-art facility. We have the highest pet care tech to dog ratio in Fairfield / Westchester Counties, and the customization of our furry guest's experience truly sets us apart from the status quo.
Our guests stay in a luxury resort that caters to their individual needs and was fully designed by discerning pet parents in consultation with veterinarians and other experts in their fields with your pet's health, safety, and fun in mind.
