Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story.

Meet Jamie and Danielle Co-Directors of Growing Minds Academy (GMA).

Why did you start your business?

GMA was born from the shared mission of two moms to provide more educational opportunities for children from early childhood and onward. We opened an at-home daycare, offering a warm, unique space where children can thrive outside the traditional facility setting. With Danielle's strong background in education and Jamie's extensive knowledge in business, they combined their expertise to build GMA. Our partnership allows us to provide high-quality childcare at a cost-effective price, making excellent early education accessible to more families.

Central to our story is the creation of a structure that includes two hands-on Co-Directors and a quality Lead Teacher, all working together to provide the best possible experience for children. This collaborative approach ensures that each child receives the attention, care, and guidance they need to thrive.

What is your best selling product/service?

We only have one service: early childhood education. And we do it the best!

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

While we don't use any local businesses to support our at-home daycare, we anticipate using several as we expand into a facility and build out our homeschool classes. We currently partner with a lot of businesses in the local community as a way to expand our outreach to parents and young families in the area.

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

Yes! We always knew we want to grow into a larger academy that serves children up to Grade 6 and we had the starting point as an at-home daycare. However, our growth plan has shifted as we learn more about this industry and the needs of the community!
