9th Biennial FOOTPRINT International Exhibition

The Center for Contemporary Printmaking’s Biennial FOOTPRINT International Competition is an opportunity for the presentation of current trends and innovations in contemporary printmaking within the bounds of the one square foot (12” x 12”) configuration. The square format was uncommon in art until the advent of abstraction, and presents distinct challenges of composition and expression. Within these precise limits, artists must confront a space and create visual order and formal structure.

Ceramic Multi-Bowls Workshop with Leah Corbett

Make your own multi-bowl centerpiece with Fairfield-based ceramicist Leah Corbett. “Multi-bowls” are one of Leah’s most popular forms, and can be used for numerous things like snack boards, jewelry catchers, air plant displays, or general organizers for keys & miscellaneous items. In this two-hour workshop, Leah will guide you through easy steps to pinch & smooth multiple bowl forms out of clay, attach them, and manipulate their shapes to fit your own creative style. We provide the clay, tools & glaze options. You get your hands a little dirty, choose your glaze, and pick up your finished creation a few weeks later. This is a great intro to hand-building class to get some basic knowledge that will take you far in the world of pottery.

The tag sale will feature wardrobe items, including more than 100 shirts – tees, casual, business, tux shirts – for only $1; pants for $2; shoes for $5; as well as a selection of show pieces at special prices. Also on sale will be Playhouse memorabilia including posters, scripts, and props. Cash, credit card, or Venmo. Proceeds will benefit the not-for-profit theater.

Raissa appeared on Broadway and Broadway tours as “Christine Daae” in PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, CHESS in concert, CATS & PARADE. She appeared as “Helen” in FUN HOME, “Truvy” in STEEL MAGNOLIAS here at MCT. Recently she appeared as “Mrs. Potts” in BEAUTY AND THE BEAST at Summer Theatre of New Canaan and on TV’s “Law and Order SVU”. Concert & Headliner venues include: Feinstein’s, Metropolitan Room, Iridium, Beechman, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Town Hall, 54 Below, Algonquin. Raissa is a MAC & BISTRO Award winning host/producer/creator of the non-profit concert series devoted to the “greening” of city spaces and has CD’s on LML Music Label at Amazon & iTunes.

Free Summer Sampler - Tetrapak

Utilizing eco-friendly, recycled materials, TetraPak prints are fast, direct, and very versatile. We will introduce you to the material, and help you discover creative ways to explore this accessible type of printmaking. What is TetraPak? TetraPak is the brand name of the silver-lined cardboard often used for packaging juice boxes and soup broth. When saved, cleaned, and flattened, printmakers can press into it with ballpoint pens to create “drypoint” type plates, or they can layer on tape and stickers to create collagraph type plates. It can also be easily cut into shapes for stenciling or a variety of creative applications.

Rotary Southern Connecticut (District 7980), Westport Sunrise and Westport Rotary Clubs, and the Connecticut Lyric Opera (CLO) are thrilled to announce "Opus for Peace," a special event series promoting peace, healing, and reconciliation through the arts, being launched with an abridged and narrated performance of Anthony Davis's powerful opera Amistad. The initial performances will occur at the Mystic Outdoor Art Festival on August 10, followed by a special performance at the Westport Public Library on August 11.
