Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

Meet Ambar Zaatar founder of Wild Blueberry

Why did you start your business?

I launched Wild Blueberry to address a gap I noticed in children's fashion. Given how rapidly kids outgrow their clothes, many items end up barely worn. These items either end up being passed down or donated, with the majority ending up in a landfill. My vision was to create a space where people could shop for the little ones in their lives, whether it's their own child, a friend's, a grandchild, or a sibling's. While pre-loved and vintage shopping is typically geared toward adults, my goal is to redefine that perception. By offering a thoughtfully curated selection of beautiful, high-quality clothing in excellent condition, Wild Blueberry aims to enhance the secondhand and sustainably-minded shopping journey, leaving our clientele feeling inspired and uplifted by their experience.

What is your best-selling product/service?:

Customers love the fun jumpsuit selection and unique European sets, as well as partner brand, Mon Coeur which uses sustainable fabrics and materials and also gives 1% of each purchase to environmental restoration.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

I've just started in a physical space and getting the word out there but I'm currently located inside Audrey Road, a local business to Ridgefield for 12 years and I’m set up next to Five and Nine, a local Ridgefield mom jewelry shop.

Have you reimagined your small business?

I would love to partner with local designers to feature some of their work in the shop. For example, I carry a line called Mmoody, a brand started by a Brooklyn mom who uses vintage and scrap fabric to create unique pants (they're a hit!).

Shop local! Wild Blueberry is located at 7 Bailey Avenue, inside of Audrey Road!
