Why Small Businesses Matter
Shop small, do big things for your community
Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community.
Meet George Apap, co-founder of George Apap Painting.
Why did you start your business?
My brother Steve and I are the third generation of painters in a fourth generation business started in 1929. We were both raised in the business, and painting is definitely in our blood. It’s the only job I’ve ever had and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I love working with the same customers year after year, and most of all, it’s great to work with family.
What is your best-selling product/service?
We offer a wide variety of services that include interior and exterior painting, carpentry, cabinet painting, and concrete floor painting. We love that we are able to provide so many different types of services to our customers. While all are very popular, perhaps our most sought-after service is cabinet painting. Many people have beautiful cabinets, but over time they start to look a bit outdated. We have a very specialized process to make the cabinets look fresh while providing durability. Our customers love it because it saves them a tremendous amount of money, avoiding a full kitchen remodel.
How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?
Have you "reimagined" your small business?
Now that we’re actually physically located in Ridgefield, we can't wait to get more closely involved with the community. Our office is specifically set up to host meetings and we want to become actively involved in the local organizations.
