Officer Fernando Luis Retires from Ridgefield Police Department

***RETIREMENT ANNOUNCEMENT***

Today, March 13, 2024 Officer Fernando Luis (Badge #164) retired from the Ridgefield Police Department.

Officer F. Luis began his career with the Ridgefield Police Department on September 9, 1997. He served as a Patrol Officer from 1997-2001 before becoming the department’s first School Resource Officer (SRO), assigned the Ridgefield High School in 2001.

Officer F. Luis held the SRO position until 2022, when he returned to the Patrol Division. During his time as an SRO, Officer F. Luis was instrumental in building relationships with the school community and creating a safe learning environment in our schools. He was a well-known DARE instructor educating countless youths on internet safety, how to stand up to bullying, the dangers drug use and addiction, and the dangers of drinking and driving. Officer F. Luis’ dedication to the Ridgefield youths went beyond the walls of the school. He served as a coach for the Ridgefield High School girls’ soccer team from 2000-2002 and continued coaching for the Soccer Club of Ridgefield (SCOR) for many years. Through his coaching efforts, Officer F. Luis took his team to Portugal 2011. This was the first time a girls soccer team from Ridgefield traveled to Europe.

Additionally, Officer F. Luis received many recognitions and held many different assignments during his career to include:

-Exceptional Service Award recipient (2021)

-Officer of the Year recipient (2013)

-Two-time PBA Officer of the Year

-MADD Award recipient

-Honor Guard Member

-Member of the Bike Patrol Unit

In addition to these awards, Officer F. Luis has received multiple letters of recognition from the public for his dedicated service and community efforts.

We would like to thank Officer F. Luis for his 27 years of devoted service to the Ridgefield Police Department and wish him well in his future endeavors. Congratulations Fernando!
