Ridgefield Guild of Artists is pleased to announce the opening of its 47th Annual Juried Exhibition on Saturday, September 28th with a reception from 4-6pm. It is free and open to all. “The juried show has been a September tradition pretty much since the Guild’s founding fifty years ago,” said Mary Pat Devine, President of RGOA. “It’s our most prestigious show each year, bringing artist submissions from all over the tri-state area. This year, we received a whopping 459 pieces from 159 artists!”
Amy Smith-Stewart, Chief Curator at The Aldrich Contemporary Museum right here in Ridgefield, selected 65 pieces by 63 artists to be part of this exhibition. She is also the founder of the eponymous nomadic curatorial project, previously located on the Lower East Side. She was formerly a Curator at MoMA PS1, a Curatorial Advisor for the Mary Boone Gallery, and the 2006–08 Guest Curator for the Peter Norton Collection and has served on faculty at the School of the Visual Arts, MFA Fine Arts department, and the Sotheby’s Institute of Art MA Contemporary Art program. She has curated more than ninety exhibitions in museums, collections, galleries, and temporary spaces. Smith-Stewart was profiled in The New York Times Sunday Styles in 2010.
About her jurying process, Amy Smith-Stewart shared: “I was deeply impressed by the depth and talent of all the artists who submitted their work. I want to recognize each artist who shared their work with me. The submissions showcased a wide range of ideas, expressions, and approaches, highlighting the tremendous power of the imagination. The works varied significantly in scale, materials, and methods, encompassing photography, painting, sculpture, textiles, paper, ceramics, and mixed media and ranged from figuration to abstraction, including experiments in still life and landscape traditions. The subject matter was also diverse, spanning the personal, political, ecological, and spiritual.”
