Elvis Costello Rocks the Fastest-Selling Ridgefield Playhouse Gala in History

On Saturday, November 9, the Ridgefield Playhouse celebrated its 24th Anniversary Fall Gala, an unforgettable night that paid homage to the 1960s and featured an exhilarating performance by Elvis Costello and The Imposters with Charlie Sexton. The sold-out event became the fastest-selling gala in the Playhouse’s history and set a high bar as the theater heads toward its 25th anniversary in 2025.

A Dazzling 60s-Themed Evening

This year’s Gala immersed attendees in a lively, retro experience, complete with 1960s fashion, go-go dancers, and bold, primary-colored decor. Ridgefield Conservatory of Dance’s high-energy go-go dancers brought vibrant movement to the evening, while Sweet Bean Events transformed the venue with mod-inspired design. Good Hope Farm’s striking floral displays added a colorful touch, and art by Chris Curnan and The College Cuber infused the space with creativity, making it a one-of-a-kind celebration where art, music, and style converged.

Cocktail Party and Dinner in Rock 'n' Roll Style

Guests walked the red carpet into the transformed Yanity Gym, buzzing with anticipation for an evening that began with an elegant cocktail party and seated dinner. Sarah Bouïssou of À Table catered the meal with artistic flair, presenting salads in parmesan bowls, braised short ribs atop celery root and potato puree, and a decadent chocolate mousse garnished with fresh white chocolate and mint. Vinyl records of musical icons served as placemats, adding a nostalgic touch to the tables. The evening’s excitement continued with a lively auction led by Fox 61 co-host and meteorologist Matt Scott.

Spotlight on Arts in Education

A highlight of the evening was a heartfelt testimonial by Shaniece Carter, a fourth-grade teacher from Shelter Rock Elementary School in Danbury, who spoke to the profound impact of the Playhouse’s Arts in Education initiatives on her students. Her words underscored the Playhouse’s commitment to enriching the lives of young people and fostering a love for the arts.

An Electrifying Performance by Elvis Costello

As the evening moved to the main event, Grammy Award-winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Elvis Costello delivered an electrifying performance. Known for hits like “Alison,” “Veronica,” and “Watching the Detectives,” Costello brought the crowd to its feet. At one point, he even walked down the aisles, performing “I Can’t Stand Up for Falling Down” and sitting beside an audience member, creating a moment of pure connection with the crowd.

A Beacon of Art and Economic Growth

The Ridgefield Playhouse is not only a cultural cornerstone but also a driving force for Ridgefield’s economy. With 25 years of impact in the community, the Playhouse has contributed significantly to the town’s economic growth, drawing visitors and supporting local businesses. As it approaches its 25th anniversary in 2025, the Playhouse continues to elevate Ridgefield’s reputation as a thriving arts and cultural destination.
