
Veterans Day, Saturday, November 11th at 11 a.m., the American Legion Post 78 will conduct the ceremony to honor Ridgefield’s and all of America’s 21,700,000 veterans. The ceremony will be conducted in front of the Lounsbury House/Veterans Memorial Garden.
The featured speaker is retired Navy Captain Pete Wikul.
Capt. Wikul is a veteran of 39 plus years of service to his country with the prestigious Navy SEAL team. He has served on four different SEAL teams and was Deputy Commander of Special Operation Command SOUTH as a military observer assigned to the Observer Group Lebanon as part of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization.
Among his many service medals, ribbons and awards, most notably he is a co-recipient of the 1988 Nobel Peace Prize for his service in Lebanon. Captain Wikul has a B.A. degree in Political Science and a Master's in National Security Strategy from the National War College. Captain Wikul resides in Ridgefield with his wife Kate. He now spends his time serving on boards of veterans’ organizations, being a motivational speaker and a jazz drummer.
The ceremony will include patriotic songs sung by vocalist Marianne Patterson along with a reading and short speeches.
Cub Scout Pack 74 will assist in the ceremony by laying a wreath on the memorial monument followed by Military Honors.
All are invited to attend this ceremony as a tribute to our veterans for their service.
