It’s Outta Here!!!
We are hometown proud (once again) to learn that Ridgefield resident Gary Cohen, the legendary, play-by-play voice of the NY Mets on SNY, has been nominated for the 2024 Ford C. Frick Award, presented annually for excellence in baseball broadcasting by the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.
The news comes on the heels of Cohen being inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame and being named the 2022 New York Sportscaster of the Year.
The NY Mets announced the news in a press release this week saying, “Ten of the National Pastime’s most beloved voices have been named as the finalists for the 2024 Ford C. Frick Award.” Joining Cohen on the ballot: Joe Buck, Joe Castiglione, Jacques Doucet, Tom Hamilton, Ernie Johnson Sr., Ken Korach, Mike Krukow, Duane Kuiper and Dan Shulman. All are living with the exception of Johnson.
According to the Baseball Hall of Fame, “to be considered, an active or retired broadcaster must have a minimum of 10 years of continuous major league broadcast service with a ball club, network, or a combination of the two.”
The winner of the 2024 Frick Award will be announced on Dec. 6 at baseball’s Winter Meetings in Nashville, Tenn., and will be honored during the July 20 Awards Presentation as part of the July 19-22 Hall of Fame Weekend 2024 in Cooperstown.
