New Tennis, Basketball and Pickleball Courts Coming to Ridgefield Early Spring 2024

The Justine Butler Tennis Courts (aka “the old high school tennis courts”) are currently receiving a much-needed overhaul.

“We are on target to be fully operational by mid-March,” says Ridgefield Parks & Recreation Director Dennis DiPinto.

Come spring 2024, Ridgefield school athletes and the general public will bounce their balls on brand new tennis courts, one full basketball court, two half basketball courts, and five pickleball courts.

“We are operating the exact same footprint, there has been no expansion,” DiPinto explains.

DiPinto says Woodbury-based Classic Turf Company has been hired to replace the six-decade-old courts which he deems are in “deplorable” condition. “We are replacing old asphalt courts that have served us well for 65 years with post-tension concrete - today’s latest and greatest,” he says.

About a week ago, the concrete was poured. After thirty days, the concrete will be ready for paint and lines. “Hopefully this will be done by the end of October,” says DiPinto.

Other elements to the project include fencing, and lighting, which, DiPinto says will likely extend beyond the end of October, possibly into early spring.

"The goal is to be completed with fencing, lighting, the surface, and all of the site work by mid-March for the scholastic tennis season and for general use of the public," says DiPinto.
