Michael Brand, M.D., is a “cut” above the rest when it comes to orthopedic surgery
As an experienced and talented, 30+ year surgeon and sports medicine specialist, Dr. Brand entered the field of orthopedics with a mission to alleviate pain and discomfort for athletes and patients alike.
Beginning his medical journey in 1991, Dr. Brand specializes in reconstructive knee surgery, arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery, as well as ACL and ACL revision surgery.
ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) surgery is a major reconstructive operation that nearly 100,000 Americans face every year. Dr. Brand’s excellence in the field drove him to establish OrthoConnecticut’s ACL-injury prevention program, which is designed to help educate parents, athletes, coaches and trainers to evaluate and correct potential problems and imbalances in order to prevent ACL injuries from occurring.
Dr. Brand has also been instrumental in supporting local area schools. His leadership enabled the practice to implement the ImPact concussion management program at places such as Western Connecticut State University (WCSU) and in other Connecticut high schools.
Dr. Brand has a stellar reputation in the Ridgefield community and patients have continually recommended him to family and friends over the years. “Thank you so much for taking care of my torn ACL and meniscus last March,” raved one of Dr. Brand’s patients’ who was thrilled with the excellent care they received. Needless to say, the patients who see Dr. Brand know they’re in good hands both before and after surgery.
After earning his honors medical degree from University of Rochester School of Medicine, Dr. Brand went on to complete his residency at Harvard and was ultimately selected as Chief Resident at Mass General Brigham. From there, he went on to complete his fellowship training with renowned surgeon, Dale Daniel M.D., as a clinical instructor in orthopedic surgery at the University of California San Diego, Knee and Sports Medicine Program.
When asked about OrthoConnecticut’s recent move within Ridgefield, Dr. Brand said, “OrthoConnecticut has had a presence in Ridgefield for 20 years. We moved the office location this year to upgrade our office facility, and to improve the patient experience here. We are focused on continuing to provide the absolute finest care in this community. We have been thrilled to care for Ridgefield High School as team doctors for 18 years now, and look forward to continuing to care for high school athletes and weekend warriors alike for many years to come.”
As lead physician and President of OrthoConnecticut, Dr. Brand’s commitment to health is evident in his deeply-rooted career in orthopedics. Today, he remains active in the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, serves on the Board of Directors for the National Orthopedic Education Society and Western Connecticut Orthopedic Surgical Center, and is a current medical advisor to ACT of Connecticut.
