Winter Weather Advisories & Power Outages in Connecticut

As of 1:30 pm today, 202 people in Ridgefield are experiencing power outages. Eversource reports 1122 Danbury customers are currently offline. Call Eversource directly to report a power outage at 800-286-2000.

Dick Aarons, Ridgefield Emergency Manager says, "Don't assume someone in the neighborhood has made the call.  In fact, the more addresses Eversource hears from, the higher the likelihood of an early response."

Aarons also reminds residents to consider all downed wires are live. In addition, operatee your generators outside in a well-ventilated area according to manufacturers instructions.

The National Weather Service has expanded the Winter Weather Advisories to include Eastern Passaic, Western Bergen Counties in NJ, Rockland and Northern Westchester Counties in NY and northern New Haven County in Connecticut.

According to DESPP,  the current radar shows moderate to heavy rain falling across central and eastern CT.

Wet snow is currently falling in Western CT approximately west of a line from Stamford to Waterbury to East Granby.  Roads in the Western Hills are becoming slush covered at this time.  Strong north and northeast winds are currently gusting to 40 MPH inland and 52 MPH along the coast. Eversource and UI are reporting a total of 15,716 outages Tides are currently running approximately 2.0 feet above normal in Long Island Sound. A strong area of low pressure continues to intensify 100 miles southeast of Montauk Point at this time. The following forecast is based on current observations and the GFS and NAM models:

This Afternoon: Rain is forecast to change to moderate to heavy wet snow across western and central CT during the next 4 ‐ 6 hours with the greatest impact in the higher elevations of northern CT. Strong north winds are forecast to gust to 50 MPH inland and 50 – 70 MPH along the coast by midafternoon. Power outages are likely. The impact on the afternoon rush hour is expected to be minor to moderate as a result of wet snow on many roads in northern CT and strong winds near the coast.

This Evening: Rain changing to wet snow across most of the state with strong north winds. Additional power are outages likely.
