KEYS (Kids Empowered by Your Support, Inc.), a non-profit organization that provides free music lessons to Bridgeport public school children, has announced that Gina Wilson has been appointed as President of its Board of Directors.
Gina Wilson is an extraordinary talent. She is a gifted musician, a person of vision and a resource in our community, with a career dedicated to supporting the arts in Fairfield County. Gina is a long-time resident of Ridgefield, CT.
Gina’s vision of a youth orchestra became a reality in 2002, when the Western Connecticut Youth Orchestra was born. She was the Executive Director for seven years. The orchestra was a supportive environment for young musicians that developed lifelong passions and launched professional careers. Gina then served as the Executive Director of The Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra from 2009-2014. Under her direction the orchestra developed as a significant force in the arts community of Fairfield County and beyond. Gina has also served as the accompanist for The Ridgefield Chorale for over 10 years.
Gina joined the KEYS Board in 2014, and served as a Director and on the KEYS Development Committee over the past year.
Rob Silvan, Executive Director of KEYS, says “We are thrilled to have Gina Wilson accept the role as President of our Board of Directors. With her past experience and devotion to bringing music to students, she is a natural fit to help KEYS strengthen and expand our role in providing music education to deserving and under-served student populations in Bridgeport, CT”.
KEYS’ mission is to bring one-to-one instrument lessons and group music instruction to under-served inner-city children in Bridgeport who have no other access to this empowering life experience. KEYS is unique in the Bridgeport community because it offers a broad musical experience for students, including one-to-one instrument lessons, after-school practice sessions, group music instruction and workshops, a non-audition orchestra and band at Bridgeport’s Klein Auditorium, and summer programs.
