Nominated for eight Academy Awards, Christopher Nolan’s World War II drama “Dunkirk” returns Feb. 2 for a limited engagement to the giant IMAX Theater screen of The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk.
“Dunkirk” will play in exclusive 70mm film projection at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays from Fri., Feb. 2 to Sat., March 3 (Oscars® eve).
“Dunkirk” is nominated for Best Picture and for Best Director (Nolan), as well as for Cinematography, Film Editing, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Production Design and Original Score. The 90th Academy Awards will be presented March 4.
Nolan shot nearly all of “Dunkirk” with IMAX cameras, and the fullest way to experience “Dunkirk” is in The Maritime Aquarium’s IMAX Theater. The popular South Norwalk attraction has the state’s largest IMAX screen – it’s six stories tall – and projects with 70mm film, which movie buffs know is the biggest, brightest, sharpest and clearest format. (One frame of IMAX film has upwards of 18,000 pixels of resolution, compared to 1,920 in a home HDTV.)
The ensemble cast includes Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh, Fionn Whitehead and One Direction’s Harry Styles.
“Dunkirk” is 107 minutes long, and is rated PG-13 for intense war scenes and some language.
Tickets for “Dunkirk” are $12.50 for adults and $10 for children 3-12. Maritime Aquarium members receive $1 discounts.
