Yoga Comes to Kong Crossfit Norwalk

Joey D'Urso, Norwalk native, brings yoga to Kong Crossfit of Norwalk!

Classes are catered to all levels, especially beginners. The classes at Kong Crossfit are open to all - you don't need to be a member of the gym. Classes will be held Thursdays at 7:30pm and Saturdays at 10:45am. The first class is this Saturday, 3/22!

Experience the amazing transformational power of this ancient art form yourself. Joey's goal is to introduce new people to the benefits of yoga, especially those who might feel intimidated by the practice - including the blue collar guys who normally would not even consider stepping foot into a yoga class.

Joey was an athlete at Brien McMahon in High School, playing football and wrestling. Wrestling became his segue into yoga. Joey is thrilled to have the opportunity to give back to the community that he came from.

Classes are $15 for a drop-in, $120 for a 10-pack, $200 for a 20 class package. Joey accepts cash, check or credit/debit cards. Email him directly with questions: Joeymikeydurso@gmail.com.

Kong Crossfit is located at 173 Main Street ▪ Norwalk CT 06851. You can reach them at (203) 810-4848.

Learn More about Joey...

My life is a living testimonial to the transformational power of yoga. I first discovered this beautiful art form on a whim in college. I was at a tiny school in the middle of nowhere amidst the highest peaks of the Adirondack Mountains. Winters were way longer and snowier than anything I had previously experienced. I was bored, a little blue, antsy but open minded and willing to try anything. A lady from the closest town was kind enough to come and offer a free one time class at one of our dorms for anyone who was interested. I went and liked it so much that I bought her cassette tape to practice with at home. That was 1998.

In the years since that initial yogic encounter, that mild curiosity grew into a semi regular practice through my twenties and eventually into a full-fledged lifestyle. It could be argued that had I not stumbled upon yoga and ended up going down this path, I might not be here to write this bio. The same curiosity and boredom that got me here could have lead down a much different path. I explored some of those other paths and luckily didn't venture as far down them as some friends who are now gone. Through yoga I have learned to appreciate every breath. Each one is a chance to hit the reset button and give your life a fresh start. When we choose to connect to the positive power that exists within and all around us, anything is possible. We can refine our lives and become better versions of ourselves by choosing to maximize the potential of each and every breath and put ourselves in healthier places physically, emotionally and spiritually.

I have studied under many brilliant teachers and been exposed to myriad styles including Ashtanga, Bikram, Dharma, Kundalini, Anusara and more. In 2011, it was finally time to share all that I had learned. I completed a 200 and then 500hr teacher training under the tutelage of Mitchel and Tracey Bleir and Donna Jackson at Saraswati's in Norwalk, CT.

My classes are a union of movement, sweat, music, fun, spirituality and breath-work. I lovingly encourage students to be present and mindful in every moment. Each pose is woven together in a vinyasa flowing style. I encourage awareness and proper alignment in every pose. It is all about realizing your full potential both on and off the mat by focusing on creating space for things that matter in your body, heart, soul, mind and life in general. Classes are tailored to meet the needs/ability level of those present and are open to all levels of participants.
