SOUTH NORWALK, Connecticut - South Norwalk Electric and Water experienced a water main break on Silvermine Avenue at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, February 10th. The
18” water main which burst was one of two main transmission lines which provide water from SNEW’s Wilton water filtration plant to its Norwalk distribution system. No customers were out of service during the break. Some residents on Silvermine Avenue experienced property damage as a result of the large volume of water released by the break.
SNEW’s crews arrived on site approximately 7:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, shut down the water main and proceeded with repairs. The location of other utilities on Silvermine Avenue adjacent to the failed water main slowed the process of excavation resulting in a lengthy delay in making the necessary repairs. The main was repaired early Monday morning and placed back in service at approximately 4:00 a.m.
