Details were announced today on implementation of the plan to allow Norwalk citizens to complete their Resident Pass Registration process on line will commence April 2. Resident passes are utilized by Norwalk residents for access to City beaches and parks, the transfer station and debris center. Residents, who in the past have been required to register for passes in person at City Hall, will now be able to sign on via computer, complete an easy form and print their pass.
The implementation plans were shared with the press at a City Hall Press Conference today, lead by Director of Parks and Recreation Michael Mocciae and Director of Information Technology Karen DelVecchio. Mayor Richard Moccia joined the department heads in support of the implementation plan.
Residents can access the registration site at the City of Norwalk web site, www.norwalkct.org. Links to the registration form will be prominently displaced at the City web site home page. Residents without a personal computer are invited to utilize a computer at City Hall located in the Recreation and Parks office, or branches of the Norwalk Library, or at the Norwalk Senior Citizen Center.
Citizens without any computer access will be able to register in person at the Recreation and Parks office as they have in the past.
The on line registration program was designed and implemented in response to the large lines and long waits which have been a part of the registration process in years past. It is hoped that the vast majority of citizens take advantage of the on line process. An added taxpayer benefit of the new program will be a savings of $35,000 in staff salaries that will not be required to meet the in-person registration process.
Development of the on line registration process was conducted in consultation with the City of Norwalk Office of Information Technology. Department Director Karen Del Vecchio welcomed the unveiling of on line registration saying, “Providing citizens with an opportunity to register from the ease of a computer station will save lots of time while providing enhanced services. I am proud that the IT professionals in this department have put together a technology that combines public convenience and cost savings.”
The City is urging the press to provide prominent coverage of the implementation plan which affects every Norwalk Resident. Approximately 50,000 Resident Passes are issued each year. Mayor Moccia will assist with the communication effort by activating the City’s Reverse Calling system, which will place a telephone message to all citizens to make them aware of the program and its benefits. Said Mayor Moccia, “Normally the reverse 911 system us reserved for emergency messages, but in this instance, every Norwalk citizen will benefit from being fully informed about the new method of registration. I hope to make it clear that the on line registration is designed as a convenience and benefit to all citizens, yet to ensure those who simply cannot use a computer that the old walk-in registration will still be available.”
