Water Witch Hose Co. #2 of New Milford announces passing of one of their own

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Veteran Member David Lathrop. David joined the Company in 1970 and proudly served the Community for 54 years; alongside his brother Mark.

During his tenure with the Company, Dave served as President from 1995-2000, and as an Auditor for the last decade. He was a Co-Chairman of the fundraising committee where he worked to coordinate; Roast Beef Dinners, Chicken BBQ's, Santa Express, Parade of Lights, and many more. Dave served proudly on both the 125th and 150th Anniversary committees. His dedication to public safety and education was evident throughout his career as a Fire Marshall serving the town of New Milford in the 1990s before moving on to a 20 year career as Fire Marshall of Ridgefield. Following his retirement in 2016, Dave served as a Fire Marshall for the town of Brookfield, and currently Sherman.

Outside of his career and community, Dave served as the Secretary/Treasurer of the New Milford Area Chief’s Association since its inception and was an active member of the Litchfield County Chief’s Emergency Plan. Dave served for years on the Bridgewater Fair Committee, helping to coordinate the Fireman's Parade; for which the host trophy now bears his name.

To say Dave wore many hats would be an understatement; he is a true testament to the spirit of the fire service. Dave's legacy will leave a lasting impression on all who met him.

Rest Easy Sir, we will proudly carry your light with us.
