Families Network Western CT receives 5K from FCCF to support Parent Leadership

Families Network of Western CT, Inc. receives $5,000 grant from Fairfield County’s Community Foundation in Support of Parent Leadership

 Families Network of Western CT, Inc. in Danbury, CT recently received a $5,000 grant from Fairfield County’s Community Foundation to support the 2024 Spanish language cohort of the Parent Leadership Training Institute. 

 “PLTI has not been offered in Spanish in Danbury since 2015, and this grant helps us to be able to serve this large and growing segment of our population,” said Katherine Tucker, Parent Leadership Coordinator at Families Network. “Grants like this help us build capacity to be responsive to the needs of the community”.

 PLTI has been offered in Danbury since 1998, and has graduated 451 Parent Leaders. The PLTI initiative is a 20-week civics and democracy curriculum designed to give parents and caregivers the skills and tools to become effective advocates on behalf of children. It also provides education in civic skills to the children of PLTI participants and teachers through the Children’s Leadership Training Institute. Families Network of Western CT, Inc. has been the sponsoring organization for PLTI in Danbury since 2016.

 Fairfield County’s Community Foundation promotes philanthropy as a means to create change in Fairfield County, focusing on innovative and collaborative solutions to critical issues impacting the community. Individuals, families, corporations and organizations can establish charitable funds or contribute to existing funds. The Community Foundation is in compliance with the Council on Foundations’ national standards, and has awarded $180 million in grants to nonprofits in Fairfield County and beyond.
