Why Small Businesses Matter
Shop small, do big things for your community
Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!
You're IT Twigs Design!
Four questions with Juliet Howe, founder of Twigs Design.
Why did you start your business?
Everyone should come home to something beautiful. In the past three years, New Canaan has welcomed many new families to our town. Many of the newcomers were from cities where lived apartment buildings. My original thought was that these busy working families would appreciate someone planting the containers on their doorsteps and by their pools. While this has certainly turned out to be true, lots of families who have been here for many years also appreciate having the containers on their property planted as well.
What is your best-selling product/service?
Twigs Design plants containers on doorsteps, by pools, and in gardens. I also enjoy arranging for events like weddings and fundraisers.
How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?
Have you "reimagined" your small business?
Recently, I have started teaching classes in arranging. I would love to do more of this and can easily teach how to make anything from table arrangements to bridal bouquets and flower crowns. I’m hoping in the future to offer arranging parties both for adults and children.
