Bridgeport Innovation Center Home to Massive Solar Energy Installation

The home of one of Bridgeport’s largest jobs generators is fighting red with green! Solar panels are currently being installed on nearly 28,000 square feet of roof at the Bridgeport Innovation Center. The small business incubator is home to 160 small start up businesses on its 10 acre, 300,000 square foot campus.

Sam Pierpont says, “Our progress is thanks to generous and innovative financing from the State of Connecticut’s Green Bank C-PACE program and Z-REC tax credits. We had a number of talented teammates on this project; Mark Robbins of MhR Development, Encon, Manson Brothers Electric and Rapco Service.”

Connecticut’s first and largest business incubator is now home to one of the Bridgeport’s larger solar energy installations, totaling nearly 500 panels, and producing 156kw or about 187,000 kWh, enough to power 16 homes. They have also improved the efficiency of their lighting and installed energy efficient heating systems.

“We plan to continue investing in this property and the Bridgeport business community. The money saved from implementing this solar campaign will be directly invested back into serving our 160 start up businesses. “We believe that Bridgeport is truly getting better every day, and are confident that the investment in this unusual property will contribute to the greater good of our business community, our artists, the environment, and our bottom line” says Sam Pierpont.

Since 1989, the goal of the Bridgeport Innovation Center has been to provide a nurturing space for small startup companies, entrepreneurs, and artists to flourish. It is arguably the most consistent jobs generator in Bridgeport. BIC provides flexible commercial spaces such as office, warehouse, storage, and of course, sunny loft spaces perfect for artists. Incubator services are tailored to fit individual needs.
