PACE UNIVERSITY TO BREAK GROUND ON NEW ATHLETICS FACILITIES OCTOBER 9

PLEASANTVILLE, NY -- Pace University will break ground on a new athletics complex that will modernize and upgrade athletic facilities on its Pleasantville campus. The $13.5 million project, which is part of the Pace Master Plan for the Pleasantville campus, includes construction of a new athletics field house, a new softball field and renovations to Peter X. Finnerty Field as well as a new multi-purpose field.

Local officials will join Pace faculty, students, athletes, staff and alumni for a groundbreaking ceremony on October 9 at 10:30am held on Pace Field on the Pleasantville campus.

"This investment by our University documents, not only the support for our 400 or so student-athletes but dedication to the entire Pleasantville campus community. This project will revolutionize how we operate as a department by providing excellent facilities for our student-athletes and the student body as a whole" remarks Director of Athletics Mark Brown.

The new 14,000 square foot field house will include a strength center for student-athletes, locker rooms for the women's soccer and women's lacrosse teams, a football locker room, athletic training room, coaches' offices, equipment room and VIP room. Construction of the building is expected to be completed in the fall of 2015.

The multi-purpose field will feature an artificial turf surface, lights, seating for 1,000 fans and an enclosed press box. The field will be the home for the Pace Football, Men's Lacrosse, Women's Lacrosse and Women's Soccer programs.

Peter X. Finnerty Field will feature an artificial turf surface, new dugouts and lights. In addition to serving as the new home of the Pace Baseball team, the field will also be the home of the newly established women's field hockey program with the first varsity season approaching in the fall of 2015.

A new softball field will be built in the southwest corner of the Pleasantville campus adjacent to the Taconic State Parkway.  Home of the Pace Softball team, the new field will feature a natural grass surface. The first softball season on the new field will be in the spring of 2016.

The multi-purpose field as well as the renovations to Peter X. Finnerty Field are all expected to be completed by the end of this year. The athletics field house and the new softball field will be completed in the fall of 2015.

Last October, Pace University broke ground for a Master Plan to transform and revitalize the 200-acre Pleasantville campus. In addition to the new athletic facilities, the $100 million first phase entails creation of two new residential buildings, an expanded student center and new environmental center. Construction is under way on the residential buildings, expanded student center and environmental center. The project will enable Pace to consolidate functions that are now split between campuses in Pleasantville and Briarcliff. Currently 690 students reside on the Pleasantville campus and 590 at Briarcliff. The 35-acre Briarcliff campus, which Pace opened in 1977, is for sale.
