
Today, Hartford is celebrating the 200th birthday of Samuel Colt. From 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. visitors can attend special tours and exhibits, a free festival in Colt Park (130 Wethersfield Avenue), and a gala with dinner and dancing.
The Big Bash Festival in the park will feature pony rides and other attractions for kids, live entertainment, a beer garden, merchants and food vendors, and vintage baseball.
Free 30-minute tours of the Colt Armory will also be offered throughout the day, in addition to Colt-family-themed tours of the Church of the Good Shepherd, the Wadsworth Atheneum, and Cedar Hill Cemetery.
The gala (tickets are required) includes a big band and silent auction and will be held at the Grand Ballroom of the Church of the Good Shepherd.
