Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Radius Martial Arts!

Three questions with Travis Passaro, founder of Radius Martial Arts.

Why did you start your business?

I love the people that I train with and appreciate the fact that they provide me the opportunity to forget my worries for a few hours while also getting a great work out! When the former owners of our academy (The Center Martial Arts) decided that they wanted to move away from their business, I decided to take matters into my own hands by continuing to provide an awesome training environment for both old and new members.

What is your best selling product/service?

Initially, people come in to inquire about training either Jiu-Jitsu or Muay Thai kickboxing as an alternative way to get fit aside from the Big Box gyms. What the soon discover is that the price of membership also includes becoming a part of a supportive community of individuals from all walks of life.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

We patronize several of the small businesses both in Fairfield and the Black Rock/Bridgeport area; from local restaurants such as Mecha Noodle and Craft 260 (we often go out to eat as a team) to small merchants such as Fairfield Electric Supply. We have even collaborated on events hosted by the Fairfield Theatre Company!
