Darien's Middlesex Earns Top Spot at Quiz Bowl Competition

Middlesex Quiz Bowl on a Roll!

Teams Take 1^st, 2^nd and 5^th Place at Championship

On October 24^th and 25th, six Quiz Bowl teams from Middlesex traveled to Hackensack, NJ to compete in the 5th annual Bergen Academies Junior Academic Championship.  Twenty four teams representing nine schools from the tri-state area competed today, and Middlesex took home 1st, 2nd, and 5^th place.   

Of note, five of the top ten individual scorers were from Middlesex.  John Phipps was the overall top scorer, Nick Derby was 2nd, Maya Nalawade was 5th, Anna Burgess was 8th, and Alex DelVecchio was 9th.

The A team (8th graders Riya Krishnan, Maya Nalawade, and John Phipps) ended with a perfect 9 - 0 record en route to the top finish, while the B Team (8th graders Skyler Bennett, Shriya Desai, and Jack Roberson, and 7th grader Alex DelVecchio) finished 2nd with an 8 - 1 record (their only loss coming to our A team in the Championship match)!  The Middlesex C Team (8th graders Nick Derby, Henry Domenici, Grace Hand, Jackson Leone, Tyler Roland, and Conway Zhou) finished 7 - 2.  Their 5th place finish was the highest ever at this tournament for any C team in MMS history.

The D team (8th graders Monisha Akula and Hudson Lazzara, and 7th graders Dougie Brown, Nick Liu, and Grant McIntyre) finished 4 - 3, the E Team (7th graders Will Cherico, Fin Kerhli, Iman Onbargi, Max Samroengraja, and Vincent Xu) also finished 4 - 3, and the F Team (all 6th graders competing in their first tournament: Anna Burgess, Kiran Ebrahimi, James Leone, Peter McLean, Noah Mobarik, and Evan O'Rourke) had a strong showing going 3 - 4.
