Darien Police Briefing, December 31st

Sunday, December 23rd, larceny of a black leather wallet from Whole Foods Market, 150 Ledge Road. The Complainant indicates that at approximately 2:00 PM she was at Whole Foods grocery shopping with her daughter. At one point while looking at product a female engaged her in conversation and subsequently left the area. When she checked her pocketbook which she had in a shopping cart, she discovered the wallet missing. The female is described as African–American, approximately 5'2" with a stocky build. She was wearing a winter type hat and a long light green jacket. The wallet contained approximately $60.00 cash and two credit cards. It was later determined that one of the credit cards had been used soon after the theft occurred at the Walmart store located on Connecticut Avenue in Norwalk. Two charges totaling $1,021.76 were used at Walmart to purchase gift cards and phone cards.

Thursday, December 27th, larceny of $733.00. A Darien resident filed a complaint indicating that he had located an advertisement on Craigslist for concert tickets. He then contacted the seller, who purported to be Brad James, and agreed upon a price of $733.00 for the tickets. The Complainant then went to a Western Union office located in Norwalk and wired the money to "James" who was believed to be somewhere in New York City. The money was picked up from Western Union, but the tickets were never received. The Western Union fraud section is also investigating and a complaint has also been filed with Craigslist.

Sunday, December 30th, incident of animal cruelty. At approximately 10:40 AM, an officer responded to the rear of Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza, 319 Post Road with regard to a found canine. Employees had found the dog in a black plastic bag covered by a cardboard box by a fence near the dumpsters. The dog is described as a brown and while male beagle mixed breed, and it did not have a collar or tags. The dog appeared old, very dirty, and may have been injured as it was unable to move. It appears that the dog had been at the location for several hours or more. The officer transported the dog to a veterinary hospital for evaluation, and, based on its extremely poor condition, a Veterinarian decided that euthanization was the most appropriate course of action.
