Celebrating 75 Years of Caraluzzi’s: A Legacy of Family and Community
Caraluzzi’s Markets, a staple in the Connecticut community, is celebrating 75 years of family business. Founded in 1949 by Tony Caraluzzi, Sr., the journey began with a small fruit and vegetable market in Bethel, CT. After 27 years of working for Gristedes Supermarkets in New York, Tony Sr. took a leap of faith, using his life savings to purchase the Bethel Fruit & Vegetable Market on Greenwood Ave.
As the market grew, so did the Caraluzzi family’s involvement. Tony’s four sons joined the business, helping to expand the Bethel store and later establishing new locations in Wilton, Newtown, and Danbury. Under the leadership of the second and third generations, including Tony Jr. and his children, Caraluzzi’s has continued to thrive, now boasting multiple supermarkets and wine & spirits stores across Connecticut.
Despite its growth, Caraluzzi’s remains rooted in its founding principles. The family emphasizes quality, variety, and customer service, with a particular focus on perishables like meat, seafood, and produce. Their deli, bakery, and prepared foods departments are also standout offerings, providing customers with fresh, restaurant-quality meals at economical prices.
To celebrate this milestone, Caraluzzi’s is hosting two weeks of special sales with daily giveaways and raffle prizes to thank their loyal customers.
What began as a small country market has grown into a local powerhouse, but Caraluzzi’s commitment to family, quality, and community remains as strong as ever. Here’s to 75 years and many more to come!
