
Sears Holdings is attempting to shore up profits, and announced Thursday that they would be attempting to sell more than 1,200 of their Sears "Hometown" Stores, outlet stores, and hardware stores in an effort to raise $770 million in cash.
The Sears in Danbury Fair Mall is considered a "Full-line" stores and will not be part of this sale. Sears Holding has over 4,000 locations.
Sears also announced they will be selling 11 Sears full-line stores to General Growth Properties. These 11 stores are located in malls owned by General Growth. The Danbury Fair Mall is owned by Macerich Company.
in December, Sears announced they were closing 120 of their Sears and Kmart brand stores. To date they have announced 96 of the locations that they are closing, and none of the closings are in Connecticut.
Sears was combined with Kmart seven years ago by a hedge fund controlled by Eddie Lampert. In 2011, Sears holding lost more than $3 billion. Many analysts have speculated that the Sears will be broken up into smaller companies in order to survive.
