Delectable dining at the new Terra in Danbury

Conveniently located off I84 in Danbury CT, Terra Restaurant provides delectable dining in a elegant yet casual atmosphere. Award-winning Executive Chef Albert DeAngelis has created a diverse menu with Northern Italian influences. The seasonal menu will change to take advantage of fresh ingredients at their peak.

Fresh ingredients are ordered nightly and delivered daily. By estimate how many orders they will receive in a given night, there is a possibility that they may run out of a specific menu item! But don't fear, the menu has numerous options, so finding a second selection will not be a difficult task. The upside is that you know you’ll receive a fresh and delicious meal!

All of the dishes are presented beautifully with bright blends of colors and flavors.  Fresh herbs and ingredients (many bought locally), along with the Italian and French cooking techniques of Chef Albert’s talented staff, are combined to create a wonderful dining experience to share with family and friends.

The white bean and vegetable soup with Tuscan Kale and smoked pork shank had a comfort-food feel without the fatty flavor often accompanied by a pork-based soup. The grilled octopus sat on a bed of season fingerling potatoes and smoked chorizo providing a nice but not overpowering kick. The parmesan crusted filet of sole had an earthy flavor with its wood roasted cauliflower partner and the Pekin Duck with pumpkin puree produced a truly winter warming feeling. My personal favorite was the pappardelle with wild boar ragout. The freshly made on premise pasta was cooked to perfection (that’s al dente - in my humble opinion) and provided a lovely base for the deliciously seasoned boar.

Bartender, John, creates the most eclectic and flavorful cocktails from the fruity Don Johnson with Tito’s vodka, grapefruit juice, lime and mint to the Dream Machine with Litchefield Bourbon, Amaro De Montenegro, ginger beer and orange bitter. My personal favorite was the Roselle Sangria with Tito’s vodka, hibiscus, lemon and a dry rose.  I would pair one of the many fish dishes with the Lavender Spa Lemonade made with the locally provided Asylum gin, lavender and sparkling wine. You can also try Purple, Danbury Social & Mona Lisa – all have something unique to enhance your meal.

Top off the night with a cappuccino and one of their many desserts options. My preference was the Tiramisu and Biscotti.

The layout of Terra was open and inviting and accented with music and fresh flowers to add to the ambiance. The kitchen is openly visible with a view of their wood burning brick oven and competent staff. The variety of seating included semi-circled booths, traditional tables and a long and friendly bar. In the spring there will be outdoor seating with a grill and bar that will overlook a beautiful wooded and landscape area. The attentive and pleasant wait staff is fast and efficient – shout out to Edgar - and added to the warmth of the restaurant.

Just take I84 East to exit 2 and make a right or I84 West to exit 2B and make a left – you’ll find it on the left less than half a mile off the highway. Terra sits next to the Hotel Zero Degrees in Danbury, in case you’d like to stay the night.

Banquet rooms are available to accommodate 125 people for weddings, conferences and other events. The restaurant is open daily from 11:30 am – 10pm on weeknights, 10:30pm on weekends. However, they open at 11am on Sundays for brunch that includes bottomless Mimosa and Bloody Mary specials. Their express lunch menu offers a prixe fixe menu of 2 courses for $18 or 3 courses for $21.  Dinner entrees range from $14 - $28 with beer, wine and cocktail prices from $5 - $15. Visit them on Tuesdays for their wine appreciation night for 50% off most list wines.

"We want to provide great experience for every day dining, not just special occasions," explains Chef Albert. So don't wait until Valentine's Day to try this thrilling new gem, make your reservations and make any night a special one at Terra!
