Carmine M. Mango, 80, of Brookfield Connecticut, was born in Newark, N.J. on June 28, 1934, and passed away on May 27, 2015 after a valiant, prolonged battle with cancer. Carmine was predeceased by his parents, Michael L. Mango and Veronica Mango (nee Harned) and his sister, Veronica Bowen. He is survived by his sister, Vivianne Meffen of Wilmington DE, his beloved wife of 54 years, Audrey D. Mango, his son Gregory Mango and wife Barbara Mango of New Milford, CT, son Christopher Mango and wife Beatrice Mango of Simsbury, CT, son Stephen Mango and wife Susan Mango of Bethany Beach, DE, son Jeffrey Mango and wife Jacquelyn Mango of Martinsville, NJ, daughter Maureen Mango Austin and husband John Austin of Natick, MA and son Michael Mango and wife Regina Mango of Haddon Heights, NJ. Many nieces and nephews also survive Carmine -- and thirteen grandchildren: Nick, Christina, Ellie, Tim, Sarah, Megan, Gracie, Caroline, Charlotte, Emily, Molly, Ella, and Nora.
A graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University in NJ, Carmine was a retired Industrial Engineer. He loved fixing and solving challenging problems and Carmine worked for twenty years at Branson Ultrasonics Corporation in Danbury, CT, during which time he had three patents issued to him for creating novel industrial sealing and cutting applications for his employer. Carmine was a proud and patriotic veteran of the U.S. Army, and was a member of the Catholic War Veterans and Korean War Veterans Associations. He was an active and faithful member of St. Joseph's Church of Brookfield CT for almost 50 years. Carmine believed in helping others and was a longtime volunteer worker for Meals on Wheels and tutored immigrants to read and write English as a second language.
Carmine was an avid, lifelong sportsman. He loved playing, coaching, officiating and watching sports - especially his grandchildren's games. He was a referee and umpire for high school football and softball - and coached youth baseball, softball and basketball for many years in Brookfield. His children are proud that Carmine earned an invitation from Al Campanis of the Brooklyn Dodgers to try out for the ball club on June 26, 1952. In the humble opinion of his children, Carmine also had the strongest arm and best infielder range of the all players in the "over 65" league in Stuart Florida during recent winters; he was also one of the fastest runners in the league well into his 70's. Most of all, Carmine enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and Florida winter snow bird trips with his wife, Audrey.
Funeral Information
Carmine's family will be receiving visitors from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday May 31st at Brookfield Funeral Home at 786 Federal Road (Route 7) Brookfield, CT. Following, on Monday June 1st at 10 a.m., Carmine's dear friend and Pastor, Reverend George "Chip" O'Neill will celebrate a Requiem Mass at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Brookfield. Entombment will be immediately after the Requiem Mass and will take place at St. Peter's Cemetery Mausoleum, Danbury, CT.
