Brookfield grad earns leadership award for work in Central America

Kevin Hoogenboom, Brookfield High class of 2010, received a leadership award this week at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where he is finishing his third year with a double major in Civil Engineering and IDEAS (Integrated Degree in Engineering, Arts & Sciences). He was recognized for his good academic standing and his contributions to Engineers Without Borders, for whom he served as Vice President at Lehigh this year.

Kevin's involvement with the group includes working at the United Nations with delegates to Rio 2012 on a sustainable building presentation and poster; traveling to Nicaragua and Honduras to improve the lives of the native population by engineering and developing clean water systems, efficient cooking methods, and reforestation projects; and presenting "Lessons Learned" on these projects at the Disinfection and Public Health 2013 Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana in February.

Kevin is an intern with Metro North, where he works for the Civil Engineering Department on a variety of structural issues, including bridge and track inspection. He distinguished himself last summer when he won the top award for his project to improve Metro North in the group of 53 college interns.
