Bethel’s Byrd’s Books Celebrates New Book, Hosts Potluck Tasting & Recipe Swap

Bethel’s Byrd’s Books Hosts Potluck Tasting & Recipe Swap While Celebrating Debut Children’s Book

Every grandma has a few special dishes she enjoys cooking for her family. For those very special grandmas and the foods they make for us with love, Bethel’s Byrd’s Books is hosting a free potluck tasting and recipe swap on Sunday, November 10th, 4:00pm to 6:00pm. The fun fest will celebrate the debut of the release of the first children’s book by cook and author Margot Musich, When Grandmas Cook: In the Kitchen with Grandmas, Nonnas, and Abuelas. Illustrated by Alette Straathof and aimed at young children, the book features grandmas — and their comfort dishes — from the United States, Mexico, Italy, India, Nigeria, Brazil, South Korea, and more.

Bring a dish and grandma’s recipe to share. Better still, bring Grandma too! Margot will share the process of making her new book Byrd’s Books’ guests share a tasting of each other's recipes from our own grandmas. Registration is strongly suggested due to space. Books can be ordered at registration or picked up at the event. Learn about some delicious and wonderful meals, including chicken soup, tamales, pasta, and borscht.

Margot threw herself into cooking full-time after working for many years in film production and publishing. Following a stint at a gourmet bake shop and catering business, and an apprenticeship in the kitchen of a private club in Manhattan, she landed a job at Union Square Café, where she went from prep cook to line cook in short order. She has raised a family; taught cooking classes; collaborated with her husband, Jim, on his book, 1,000 Books to Read Before You Die; and written and self-published a cookbook, Simple Pleasures: Cooking from the Heart.

Byrd’s Books is located at 178 Greenwood Avenue across from the Bethel Public Library. Author discussions and Book Group gatherings are regularly added to Byrd’s Books’ calendar of events at ByrdsBooks.com
