Every year between February and March, the Board of Education, based on recommendations from the administration, approves the school calendar for the next school year. It is important to note that our school calendar contains 181 school days for our students and 186 days for our staff (five professional learning days). Regardless of how many weather-related closures or holiday breaks, we still complete the 181 days for students. You can find the approved calendar for the 2024-2025 school year using this link. The calendar changes from previous drafts and the rationale include:
The first student day was moved from Monday, August 26th. Starting with a half week is developmentally more appropriate for our preschool and kindergarten students. Moving it up two days also better aligns with all of our neighboring districts.
We made the Wednesday before the Thanksgiving Holiday a non-student day. We gain 1/2 of a day of instructional time by making this change. Our district attendance is extremely poor on this day (roughly 80% of students attend on this day.
We moved the President's Day Recess from Monday to Friday, February 14th, and Monday, February 17th with the Professional Learning Day moved to Tuesday, February 18th. This change aligns better with all of our neighboring districts. It also provides families an opportunity who may want to travel, to take a long weekend.
Overall, we feel the calendar is less disruptive. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about some of the changes.
