Ridgefield Little League's Travel Baseball (RTB) is pleased to announce that tryouts for the 2012 Spring season will be held on Saturday, September 24th, and Saturday, October 1st, 2pm to 6pm, at Fitzgerald/Serfilippi Fields. Yes, this is a lot earlier than this past season, but choosing the teams now will allow them to train together throughout the winter. Remember, if you intend to be a part of RTB, you must also enroll in RLL's regular 2012 spring season. Registration for the 2012 season will open in December. Players who cannot play in RLL's spring season should not try out for the RTB program.

All players must attend at least one RTB tryout session, preferably both, to be considered for the travel program. Players should be prepared to exhibit their skills in a workout environment, as well as during a simulated game session. The RTB board will be evaluating the players. Joe Espinosa will run the tryouts using a 'showcase style" which gives player the opportunity to show their skills. There will be a $15 fee charged to help offset costs. Please register through the RLL web site under Fall Travel Tryouts. (add link)

RTB will field teams in the NY Elite Baseball League in the 10,11, and 12U Divisions. Last season we fielded one team in each division. This year we will have at least 4 teams in travel and remain open to adding some teams if we have enough qualified players and coaches. Travel baseball is competitive and not all players are ready for this level off play.

Here are some details:

Games are on Sundays, mostly doubleheaders. There will be a weekend tournament or two. RLL will attempt to avoid regular games on Sundays, scheduling permitted.

All players must play in RLL in addition to travel. Travel is open to players from baseball age 8 and up.

Teams will work out together starting in January at a time most compatible to team members.

All teams play on larger fields, with full leading and stealing. Metal bats are allowed.

There will be an additional fee ($400  to $500) for the travel program.

Players will be asked to make travel baseball their primary commitment in the Spring .Conflicts with other sports such as soccer and hockey will need to be addressed. Games begin late March and end early June. We will attempt to play at least 15-18 games, weather permitting.

There will be some traveling involved, usually within 30-40 minutes, for half the games. Carpooling is always a good option.

Steve Hanna will manage 10s, Paul Colucci 11s, John Stamatis 11/12, and John Macchia 12s. If we add teams, additional managers will be chosen.

Our first season was a great success, and we anticipate a greater response this season.

Please remember to register at the RLL website for the tryouts. Email  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with questions.
