The Tigers beat Trinity Catholic in a late afternoon matinee at the Winter Garden on Wednesday. Callan McCormick started the scoring with his first goal of the year, when he shot one by the Crusader goaltender unassisted in the middle of the opening period. The first period ended with the Tigers leading by a slim 1-0.
Danny McMullan gave the Tigers some breathing room early in the second period with his 7th goal of the season to make it 2-0. After the Tigers put themselves in the hole down two men for almost 2 full minutes, Trinity capitialized with a goal to pull within 2-1. After the second penalty had expired, Johnny Richards sniped his fifth of the year past the Crusader goalminder from the left side for 3-1 lead. About 45 seconds later, Captain Sean Wilkinson rocketed his team high 13th of the year for a commanding 4-1 lead and the Tigers roared to their tenth win of the season.
In the third period, Vin Rella and Wilkinson tallied for the Tigers to make the final 6-2. Trinity had a limited amount of shots on Tiger goalie, Nate Gliedman, which can be attributed to quality blue line minutes by Ian Ball, Andy DeLalla, and Tyler Trombetta. Trombetta was also in the giving mood offensively, tallying two assists to lead the blue line in points against Trinity Catholic.
The Tigers travel to Fairfield on Saturday, January 28th before returning home for a mid-term exam Wednesday night game against rival New Canaan at the Winter Garden on Wednesday , February 1 @ 8:30pm.
