Support The Girls Lax Team- It's Their Only Fundraiser of The Year!

The Ridgefield Girls Lacrosse team is selling a great shopping discount card for Ridgefield area merchants. The card is only $20 and proceeds support the lacrosse program. For several of the merchants, just one or two purchases will pay for the cost of the $20 card.  And remember, you can use it as many times as you want at each merchant for the whole year!
"There are some great new merchant additions this year and it works at all 3 Subways in town," says fundraising volunteer, Susan Galione. The value packed card is the size of a credit card- easy to fit into a wallet. It makes a great gift idea for birthdays, Mother's Day, Father's Day and graduation. Contact Susan Galione to purchase your card: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

For Runners, Spring Is In The Air!

Woodcock Nature Center 5K

At a recent 5k committee meeting for the Woodcock Nature Center the date was set for their 3rd annual, “Where The Wild Things Run”: Sunday, May 1st. As it turns out, May 1st is a busy day for road and trail. The popularity of local races means the running community is booking races faster than ever. This year the challenging Leatherman’s Loop at the Pound Ridge Reservation sold all its available 500-slots to online sign-ups within 3 hours of opening their registration. Westport’s 5k-and-10k Minuteman Race, sponsored by the Westport Young Women’s League, is also scheduled for May 1st, and is now open for sign-ups. Even Ridgefield’s well attended Mother’s Day event, “Run Like A Mother” is taking registrations. Race day may feel like just another run, but each course is different. The Leatherman’s Loop has been described as something of a novelty course, with woodsy inclines and brisk ravines.

By contrast, Wilton runner, Laura Imrie, who has run the Minuteman, enjoys that race as “a very level road course, perfect for recording a fast time.” “Where The Wild Things Run” is somewhere in between, with a course that's mixed road-and-trail. Three years ago woodcock reintroduced the 5k it first held as a roadrace in 1998, but this time with the idea of incorporating some of its many miles of woodland trails. Now in its 3rd year, the combined run has earned enthusiastic fans. Tim Schmidt, who helped design the Woodcock route, gives special appreciation to the off-road leg. “It is a very scenic course with groomed trails and a middle section that we've mapped through open meadows.” Asked how the runners like the mixed course, he smiles and says, “We’ve gotten great reviews.” With races now open for registration and a calendar of dates stretching from April through November, can spring be far behind? Online registration for Woodcock’s “Where The Wild Things Run” is open now on the Events page of their website: woodcocknaturecenter.org.
