UPDATE (MAY 10TH, 8:30 PM): ALL EIGHT QUESTIONS ON THE BUDGET REFERENDUM PASSED!
UPDATE (MAY 10TH, 1 PM): As of 1 pm, a little more than 1,000 Ridgefielders have voted in the Budget Referendum at Yanity Gym.
The Town's Budget Referendum is on May 10th from 6 am to 8 pm, ONLY at Yanity Gym, and several local organizations are working hard to point-out some "not-so-obvious" information, see below.
Question #4 of the eight on the ballot is a capital item asking for approval for Ridgefield Public Schools and Town Energy Projects. And it's passage directly affects the School Budget!
Here is some background on Question #4:
- The Town and School System have previously funded a study of town and school buildings to identify ways to decrease spending on energy/utilities.
- Based on the results of the energy study, referendum question #4 is requesting money to undertake two of the projects/steps recommended in the study.
- It is anticipated that the schools can reduce their energy/utility costs by approximately $200K if the projects/steps are undertaken.
- Superintendent Low, in complying with the mandate of the Board of Finance to reduce the proposed school budget by $850K, has identified $650K in reductions. BUT, if question #4 doesn't pass, then she will have to identify an additional $200K in reductions.
