UPDATE: Library Funding Situation
The Library was well-prepared with strong presenters ready to share compelling facts and figures with the Selectmen. We were well prepared, but we did not actually have to share our materials because the First Selectman had come with savings in two major areas, health insurance costs and utility savings, that would satisfy the desired objective. The Library did not suffer any additional cuts. The Selectmen did take note of the Library supporters in the audience ---there were about 12 of us. At such short notice, this was a wonderful turnout. They also they were getting flooded with email messages from all of you. I thank each one of you who took the time to email the Selectmen to share your thoughts on not reducing the Library's funding any further. Most importantly, I was truly touched by the outpouring of support for our Library. We who work here have a passion for our work, the users of our programs and services also have a passion for having access to these programs and services. It is heartwarming to hear how much this library means to you. Thank you, thank you. I apologize for the very late notice in reaching out to you yesterday. A variety of circumstances prevented the message from going out before it did. We sincerely hope that doesn't happen again. Meanwhile, enjoy the Library and thanks again. Gratefully, Christina B. Nolan
