Curious about Eloise Cupcake Wednesdays?
By Beth Butler
Something extra sweet is happening in town every Wednesday. The Cake Box and The Ridgefield CureSearch Walk for childhood cancer have come together to tap community spirit by featuring a special cupcake each week with all of the profits going to CureSearch, an organization 100% focused on pediatric cancer research.
It is all part of the countdown to the CureSearch Walk being held at Town Hall and Main Street on Sunday, May 15th.
The special cupcake, known as the “Eloise” cupcake will have a new flavor each week topped with an “Eloise” flower. The flower is inspired by the artwork of Eloise Gould who died of cancer last May at the age of 14. Eloise was the niece of Ridgefield resident, Beth Butler. Beth is the force behind the Ridgefield CureSearch Walk, the first in Fairfield County.
“Childhood cancer isn’t an easy topic, but in order for the Ridgefield Walk to be successful it was crucial to find ways to get the community involved,” said Butler. “Cupcakes bring out the kid in all of us. Partnering with The Cake Box was a perfect fit. The “Eloise” cupcake helps us raise awareness and funds for lifesaving childhood cancer research.”
Since this sweet partnership was formed two weeks ago, The Cakebox has sold out of the “Eloise” cupcake each Wednesday. This confection with a cause is touching many sweet spots in a community that is known for embracing the causes of its residents. Each week will feature a new flavor but always topped with an Eloise flower.
The Walk on May 15th honors children and families who have endured a cancer diagnosis and treatment. CureSearch is 100% focused on childhood cancer research. CureSearch funds the lifesaving, collaborative research of the Children’s Oncology Group (COG). With more than 210 member hospitals worldwide and over 6,500 physicians, nurses and other researchers, Children’s Oncology Group hospitals treat 90 percent of children in the United States with cancer. The money that will be raised will be used right here in our community. Funding efforts by CureSearch for Children’s Cancer allow children with cancer to receive world-class treatment and care close to home including the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, Yale University, New York Medical College, Sloan Kettering, to name a few.
