With reports of fake FEMA workers in Ridgefield circulating on the Internet, we spoke with Capt. Ryan at the Ridgefield Police Department, and he offered these thoughts.
"Don't be a victim," says Capt. Ryan. If workers from an organization arrive at your home and offer to help, try to check their validity (worker ids, a phone call to their company), do not pay until work is complete, and please call the police if you see any suspicious activity. If you do suspect something, try to get their car make and model and a license plate number, and call the police immediately.
As for the fake FEMA officials offering tree removal for cash, it is an unsubstantiated rumor and the organization involved does seem to have some part in FEMA, but more investigation is necessary.
