SNAPPING TURTLE IN THE ROAD? IN YOUR GARDEN?

This sage piece of advice from the Woodcock Nature Center:

At this time of year, female turtles are following ancestral paths to lay their eggs. Please help this ancient species by moving turtles out of the road (push them towards the direction they are headed). Snappers have strong jaws so push with a shovel - never put your hands or feet near a snapping turtle or pick up a turtle by its tail - it can dislocate and cause serious injury to the turtle.

Just yesterday, I saw a little guy, or should I say, girl, trying to cross Route 116, and a kind gentleman came to her aid ~ making sure cars slowed and waited for her to get to the other side.
