 UPDATE

We just got off the phone with First Selectman Rudy Marconi and he confirmed that he has declared a State of Emergency for the Town of Ridgefield under section 8-5 of Ridgefield Town Charter. This decision allows Mr. Marconi to make certain emergency decisions such as closing roadways. He stated that Hurricane Irene should begin impacting Ridgefield between 8-9pm tonight and be very strong by 10am tomorrow. Winds as high as 50 mph are anticipated. Because of the length of the storm, trees are expected to fall and take down power lines.  Mr. Marconi has called in additional trucks to aid in tree cleanup.

Scotts Ridge Middle School is presently open as a town shelter.

  • TOWN SHELTER AT SCOTTS RIDGE MIDDLE SCHOOL WILL OPEN AT 4pm TODAY.
  • WHEN/IF YOUR POWER GOES OUT, YOU ARE ASKED TO CALL: 1-800-286-2000 TO REPORT THE OUTAGE.
  • CALL: Town of Ridgefield for non-emergency issues at: 203-431-2351 or 2352

Closures:

* The Town of Ridgefield asks that all non-essential businesses close by 8pm tonight.

*Because of the severe weather conditions that will accompany the arrival of Hurricane Irene, all Sunday Masses at St. Mary's Catholic Church in the Church and Parish Hall are cancelled.  The only Masses that will be celebrated this weekend will be the 4 and 5:30 P.M. Masses in the Church this afternoon.  Realizing how important Sunday Mass is to all of us, I want you all to know that I have made this decision with great reluctance.  However, the weather conditions predicted for tomorrow will make driving difficult if not impossible, and very dangerous.
May I strongly recommend that those of you who were planning to come to Mass tomorrow spend some time at prayer in your own homes during the day, and that we all continue to include in our prayers the millions of people in all of the states through which Hurricane Irene will pass.
May the good Lord bless us all and keep us safe.
