It's Fall... That Means Apple Picking
By Joanna Kutler, Travily
Fall is in the air and the apples are ready for picking! This past weekend, Blue Jay Orchards in Bethel, CT opened its doors for pick-your-own apples.
Currently, Blue Jay Orchards have Cortland, Gala and Holly apples available for picking. For $15, you can fill a medium bag (12-15 pounds) and for $30 you can fill a large bag (about 25 pounds). These prices are actually $5 LESS than last years prices due to rough weather (hail!) during the growing season which resulted in some blemishes on the apples. We found plenty of apples that looked great and tasted so good! So take advantage of the low prices and get some yummy apples, make some applesauce or jam!
Apple picking at Blue Jay Orchards is open daily from 9am-5pm. Just park your car by the pick-your-own shed, which is on the opposite side of the street from Blue Jay's store. You can pay with cash at the pick-your-own shed, or you can head across the street and pay by credit card at the store.
On weekends, Cap'n Jacks will be serving hot dogs in front of the store. Of course, Blue Jay's store is well-stocked with plenty of goodies for sale, including delicious pies, jams, apple sauces, cider, and more. Don't forget to pick up some of Blue Jay's famous cider donuts!
Blue Jay Orchards is located at 125 Plumtrees Road, in Bethel, CT and the phone number is 203-748-0119. For directions, click HERE. Interested in other pick-your-own farms in the area? Check out www.pickyourown.org to find a listing of farms and produce.
