New Library Computer System is Up and Running!
Along with our partners in the Bibliomation library network, the Ridgefield Library has completed the transition to a new computer system for our catalog, circulation and other operations. BibliOak, as it is called, is an open source software system, designed by libraries for libraries. Its collaborative development structure will allow us to add new features more readily and be more responsive to changes in how YOU want to use your library and the materials we offer.
We are still working to change over all our computers and online links to the new system, so please use this link for the next few days to make sure you are going to the new catalog.
Library staff is standing by to show you the ins and outs of the new system. Do not hesitate to ask us to help you get the most out of this exciting new advance in library technology.
Our Apologies
Our apologies for the delay in implementation of the new system and any inconvenience this may have caused you over the past week. We, too, have been anxious to see everything settled into place, but the process took considerably longer than the vendors anticipated. Rest assured that no fines will be charged for the period between May 27th and June 5th on items returned or renewed by this coming Monday morning.
Getting Started with the New System
To start using the the new system to renew items, place holds or check account information, each library card holder must set up a new user account. You may do this online from home or we will be happy to assist you to do this here at the Library. Just ask at any reference desk.
Go to the new BibliOak catalog. Look for the "My Account" link on the front page of the catalog and click on it. Access the system using your library card number as your user name and the last 4 digits of your phone number as your password. If you are having difficulty, it may be that you are trying with a phone number other than what we have on file for you. Try alternate numbers (work, cell, old home number). If all else fails, call us and we can check what number is in your account record. You must then change your password, following the parameters listed. Once you have done that, you will need to log in again and may then change your user name. You may keep your library card number as your user name if you prefer, or substitute something easier for you to remember. Next, click on the tab named "Account Preferences" at the top of your account summary. Please select a "Default Hold Notification Method" and then save your preference changes. We encourage people to choose "Use Email Only" for the fastest and most efficient notification. Now you can renew items you have out, check the status of your account and reserve books online. This new log-in protocol will provide more convenience (no need to remember that long barcode number) as well as enhanced security (through the addition of a personal password only you know).
Don't Forget to Update Your Bookmarks

A wealth of helpful information about most items in the catalog, including format indicators, reviews, excerpts, author notes and more.
Easy access to the holdings of all our Bibliomation partner libraries, significantly expanding the collections available for your use.
"Bookbag" feature allows you to create multiple permanent lists, such as "Books to Read" or "Books Read."
Spellcheck on catalog searches.
Ability to limit your search by format, publication date and other characteristics
PLEASE NOTE: The old Kids Catalog is gone but will be replaced shortly by a new, improved version. Stay tuned!
Alert for Library ELF Users
There may be a temporary disruption in Library ELF service due to the change in the account log-in protocols. We will let you know if there is a need for you to re-establish your ELF settings to resume service. In the meantime, look for notices coming directly from the Library about overdues and holds.
