On Wednesday, February 15, the Fairfield Board of Selectmen unanimously appointed Donald Ross, Jr. to the position of Town Assessor. Mr. Ross, who has been working in the Town Assessor’s Office for over 36 years, had recently been serving as Acting Town Assessor following the retirement last October of former Town Assessor Thomas Browne, Jr.
Prior to serving as Acting Town Assessor for the past four months, Mr. Ross had served in the department as Assistant Assessor from 1975-1983 and Deputy Assessor, starting in 1984. As a 53-year Fairfield resident, Mr. Ross possesses an extensive knowledge of the Town of Fairfield. In assisting two town assessors with litigation and budget preparation, personnel matters, and official reporting to various state and town agencies, Mr. Ross has acquired an institutional memory of the Assessor’s Office.
In addition, Mr. Ross has extensive real property mass appraisal knowledge and experience gained through participation in five town-wide revaluations in Fairfield. He assisted in the development of Fairfield’s ADMINS Assessment Administration software and in the implementation of its Vision Appraisal Land Information and Mass Appraisal System. He possesses current Level II Connecticut State Certification and advanced assessor certification granted by the Connecticut Association of Assessing Officers in 1984. He holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Fairfield University.
First Selectman Mike Tetreau said, “Since taking over as Acting Town Assessor, Mr. Ross has performed in a stellar fashion just as he has been doing for the past 36 years in the Assessor’s Office. The Town is fortunate to have such a dedicated and hard working employee serve the Fairfield community.”
Mr. Ross said his immediate goals include looking at some of the recommendations put forth in the 2009 Operational Audit; bringing electronic mapping fully into the department; and streamlining programs like the administration of a state renters’ program.
Mr. Ross said, “This is a real special opportunity to serve the Town which has been such a special place to grow up, go to school, marry, and raise our family. I'm so blessed to call Fairfield home!”
